DUES
How much are union dues?
The UAW typically charges members a percentage of their pre-tax, gross income as base union dues. The more money you make, the more money you pay to the union in dues. Does that mean people who pay more get more attention or better representation from the union? According to their constitution, the minimum monthly dues will equivalent to 2.5 hours of straight time pay for members paid on an hourly basis or 1.44% of gross straight time monthly wages for members paid on a salaried basis. Art. 16 Sec. 2
In 2023, UAW collected an average of $624 from its members in base annual dues. This does not include any fines, fees, or assessments. And remember, unions are permitted and often do increase the amount of dues members are required to pay.
What if I don’t want to join the union or pay dues?

If the union does win, opting out may not be in your best interest because the terms of any contract negotiated apply to you, and you do not get to vote on the ratification of the contract.
How does the union collect union dues?
If a union gets voted in, they will likely collect union dues from your paycheck each week. The dues will likely be automatically deducted from your paycheck. If a union gets voted in, you will likely have to pay union dues just to keep your job.
